Giovanni Quattrocchi

Ricercatore
Giovanni Quattrocchi holds a degree in Nautical Sciences with a specialization in Physical Oceanography from the University of Naples “Parthenope”. In 2011, he earned a Ph.D. in Marine Science and Engineering from the University of Naples “Federico II. Since 2011, he has conducted research at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Toulouse within the Mercator Ocean laboratories. He joined the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change in 2012, and from 2013 to the present he has been affiliated with the National Research Council. His research focuses on the investigation of oceanographic processes at both basin and coastal scales through the integration of numerical modelling and experimental approaches. His research interests include the study of the interactions between marine organisms and the environmental conditions of their habitats, past, present, and future, as shaped by oceanographic variability and climate change. His work addresses the effects of these dynamics on the distribution, dispersal, and behaviour of marine species across different life stages, with special attention to non-indigenous species, species of high commercial value, and those considered endangered or vulnerable. As part of the Operational Oceanography Team, he develops and implements numerical forecasting systems to assess pollutant dispersion at sea, estimate coastal impact probabilities, and evaluate associated risks in relation to specific coastal vulnerabilities.
