Chiara Gambardella graduated in Biological Science (2007) at the University of Genoa (Italy) and she got a European PhD in Cellular Biology and Biotechnology (2011) at the University of Messina (Italy). She was awarded of the Italian Prize “l’Oreal-Unesco for Women in Science” in 2011. She worked as post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of Marine Science of the Naational Research Council (CNR-ISMAR) from 2013 to 2017. She is a permanent researcher at CNR-IAS in Genoa since 2018. Her research activity primarily focuses on marine environmental pollution and ecotoxicology. Specifically, she investigates the effects of emerging contaminants - such as nanoparticles, nanoplastics, microplastics, pharmaceuticals - on the marine environment, particularly at the first trophic levels (bacteria, microalgae, zooplankton). She co-authored more than 65 peer reviewed articles and she is currently involved in several national and ongoing research projects, as Coordinator or participant.
